The ceremony was attended by university authorities, student representatives, construction partners, and distinguished guests. Speaking at the event, University Rector Prof. Dr. Artūras Razbadauskas emphasized the significance of this project for both the university and the entire city: “This new building will not only serve as a place to live, but also as a place for a community to shape and build the future. We are continuing to implement the detailed plan for the university campus with the aim of providing students with the best possible conditions for living and studying.”
The technical design solutions will enable the creation of a modern, sustainable, and energy-efficient infrastructure. According to Benediktas Petrauskas, Vice-Rector for Infrastructure and Development at the University, this dormitory will meet contemporary standards and contribute to the cost-effective development of the university: “The new Klaipeda University dormitory is a modern, three- to four-story building with an A++ energy efficiency rating and a total area of 3,965 square meters. It will accommodate about 200 students. The project is worth about €10 million. It is expected that students will be able to move into the dormitory in September 2026.”
Arvydas Markevičius, CEO of Infes, UAB, also expressed his delight at the opportunity to contribute to this project: “It is a pleasure to participate in an initiative that will foster a modern and harmonious academic environment in Klaipėda. The burial of the symbolic time capsule marks not only the start of construction, but also a decisive step towards a future for the younger generation to live, study, and create. We are delighted to be a partner contributing to the creation of value for the university community.”
This project is the second of three planned stages of dormitory construction. A third stage is planned for the future, which will further contribute to the creation of a comfortable and modern living environment for students. A modern laboratory building will soon be constructed on KU campus, which will house a medical simulation center as well as engineering and biotechnology laboratories. The Faculty of Marine Technology and Natural Sciences is scheduled to move here in 2027-2028. The new space will be used for training medical and engineering students as well as for scientific research.
